Genetic counseling is a process of helping individuals understand the medical and psychological implications of genetic disorders. A genetic consultation provides patients and families with clinical information and addresses a patient’s specific questions and concerns. The genetic counselor will typically provide information about
The clinical report and the diagnosis
How the genetic variant, after factoring in patient's family and medical history, may impact the chance of disease occurrence
How the condition is inherited, and the risk of passing on the condition to patient's children
The options for treatment, screening and prevention.
Genetic counselors are trained health care professionals working as part of a clinical team. They are required to have specialized graduate degrees with training and experience in medical genetics and counseling.
Genetic Counseling for Patients
Rainbow Genomics provides a variety of bilingual-genetic counseling services to our patients, in English with Mandarin, Cantonese or Japanese. We work closely with Baylor College of Medicine's Consultagene program to deliver phone- or video-conferencing-based genetic counseling to each patient. U.S. board-certified genetic counselors will provide the services to ensure high quality and effective patient support.
Genetic Connections - "The link between you and your loved ones is more than skin deep. We are here to help you view the genetic links of your family. Our goal is to make personalized genetic healthcare information accessible and to provide the best counseling possible."
Convenient - "Designed for you. Consultagene lets you supply information and explore education from any computer or mobile device."
Rainbow Genomics pioneers the use of services from your native-speaking genetic counselors who are fluent in your local language, and understand your culture, coupled with highly-experienced, U.S. board-certified genetic counselors to provide high-quality genetic counseling.
This approach overcomes the issue of serious shortage of trained genetic counselors in many countries throughout Asia. Plus, we deliver the support at an affordable cost level so many families can receive the counseling and education needed to care for their family members.
Education is a focus of the Consultagene system. The system provides educational videos and web-based resources that are personally selected by experts to fit your situation and your genetic health concerns.
This is a multimedia educational, genetic counseling and genetic services resource provided by faculty and staff of the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. The online experience includes:
Convenient client/patient scheduling
One-Hour Video Conference
We understand that many physicians would like to incorporate genetic testing and precision medicine in their practices. But they are concerned about the time and informational demand to explain the genetic cause and implement necessary care at the post-test stage.
Physician Consultation - Peer-to-Peer Discussions. Rainbow Genomics delivers two levels of support for ordering physicians to enhance their ability to provide the best care for their patients.
Baylor Genetics' certified genetic counselors will provide email-based consultation to physicians.
For clinicians who desire in-depth discussions of a patient's case, Baylor College of Medicine's Consultagene program provides peer-to-peer consultation, a one-hour, video-conferencing delivered directly by Baylor's physicians. The ordering clinician, their collaborators and associated health care providers are all welcome to participate.
As a product of the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine in collaboration with Baylor Genetics, Consultagene leverages the intellectual capital of the department's faculty, 180 members strong, and healthcare providers. This group includes the following:
25 clinical & medical biochemical geneticists with expertise in adult, prenatal, and pediatric genetics, neurogenetics, cardiovascular, cancer and metabolic genetics, skeletal dysplasias, and connective tissue and mitochondrial disorders
Over 25 board-certified diagnostic laboratory directors
Rainbow Genomics' goal is to enhance physicians' abilities to deliver precision medicine to Asian patients. After initial consultation, we continue to provide email-based support to ordering physicians to continue the necessary support.
